All you need to know about homeschooling in India

Homeschooling in India

With looming uncertainty about when schools will reopen in India, more and more parents are looking at Home Schooling options.

Three main reasons are driving parents towards this – Uncertainty created due to pandemic, Exorbitant fees charged by regular schools, Technology advancement happening in the education space.

What is Homeschooling?

When parents make the firm decision to educate their child from their home environment and not send them to schools, it is called homeschooling.

Note: This is not the same as e-learning or online learning via school during the COVID-19 pandemic

Why Indian parents who were earlier skeptical towards Home schooling, now finding it as a good option

In today’s world learning is no longer dependent on a set of teachers or predefined book sets alone, but children can learn from anywhere using whatever set of tools and platforms they like. With Google becoming the ‘go-to ‘person for all doubts,  with the presence of open doubt clearing platforms like Brainly, and with Byju’s bringing classrooms available through tablets, students can easily give their regular teachers a miss. This change in dynamics happening in the education system is what makes the parents wonder if they are making the right choice by sending their child to a mainstream school paying hefty fees. Parents now want for their children a personalized curriculum that ensures their child’s special talents are nourished along with giving them an overall development. Parents want to take off the pressure of education from their child and make learning engaging, along with, freedom to pursue their interests.

Also, in India homeschoolers can now get formal certificates as mainstream schools by appearing for board examinations conducted by NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) and IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) which have international recognition. So there is no much hurdle on pursuing higher studies once they complete their home school-based studies.
