But then how many times it has happened that one member falls sick and remaining all family members follow the suit or after being down with illness your child fall sick again immediately….  Did you know the fact that bacteria doubles in 20-30 minutes. So even a single cell of bacteria is left, it can grow into millions in a single day !

How to Clean your Home after Being Sick

Living Areas

Now no one can confine a sick person to bedroom alone. They would be using mobiles, watching television and using living room furniture and facilities. The moment a person falls sick it’s better to cover sofa and  upholstery with washable sheets and blankets. In that way, the furniture will remain germ free.  It’s advisable to remove decorative pillows and show pieces from living area. It is advisable to clean every day door knobs, light switches, cell phone, remote control, laptops, toys etc with good quality disinfectant.

It’s your mattress that’s going to get the maximum load of germs. So to prevent your mattress from becoming a hiding place for germs, it’s better to give the mattress an extra layer of covering. Also when a person is sick they will sweat a lot. This sweat will seep into mattress and pillows, and can cause stains and smells. The extra protection layer given by you will help to absorb any excess sweat and keep pillows and mattress clean. If the disease lasts for a long period it would be good to expose mattress to day-light for 5-6 hours. To make the mattress perfect one can sprinkle a combination of baking soda and essential oil over it and later remove it with the help of a vacuum cleaner.

How to Clean your Home after Being Sick

The warm, steamy environment makes it perfect for  germs to grow. Especially if illness involved diarrhea, vomiting you must double up your sanitization plan. In addition to cleaning up toilet floor, flush, taps and basin you must also give towels a hot water wash. It’s good to allocate a separate towel for the sick or even encouraging them to use paper tissues on days of infection. Empty out dustbin with body secretion appropriately and give it as well a thorough wash.

Pre-Teen Acne: Be Alert from the Beginning Parents

Pre-Teen Acne
The worst is, according to doctors kids with pre-teen acne will have more severe acne in adolescence.

Start of puberty is occurring earlier than in the past.  Acne is no longer viewed as a teen phenomenon. Dermatologists are seeing patients as young 7 and 8 years reaching out to them for acne treatment. Also early acne is a little more common in girls than boys. Indeed a matter of concern for me as I am mother to two daughters.

Acne  includes everything from  whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, nodules to cysts. It leave behind blemishes and scars which can lead to emotional distress. Pre-adolescent acne can progress from whiteheads to inflamed bumps. It occurs mostly on the forehead, nose and chin. The worst is, according to doctors kids with pre-teen acne will have more severe acne in adolescence.

So What can Parents do

  • Be Alert from the Beginning itself. Watch for small blackheads and early papules, especially on the nose where acne usually starts
  • Teach Your little one Good Skin Care Habits early on
  • Opt for mild acne treatment cream with benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide kills the bacteria that cause pimples
  • Tell your kids to keep their hands off the pimples. Pricking the pimple can cause scarring, exacerbate inflammation, and generally makes acne worse

My Story

“Teach Your little one Good Skin Care Habits early on”. It was easier said than done. My little ones travel each day ten kilometers for school. By the time they come back, on their face half the dust and dirt of Bangalore will be there. But then I was hesitant to use any soap or adult products to clean their face. I was on look out for a mild, kid friendly foaming face wash. That’s when I received from Mamaearth FOAMING FACE WASH FOR KIDS WITH ALOE VERA AND COCONUT BASED CLEANSERS. As usual a thoughtful product from Mamaearth. I am not surprised to see such a product from them as the brand is run by new age parents Ghazal and Varun and they understand new age problems very well.

How is the product like

Mamaearth Foaming Baby Face Wash for Kids
Mamaearth Foaming Baby Face Wash for Kids

First and foremost my kids loved its smell and foamy texture. Also they found the bottle easy to use and store. They said they are going to use it ! So the major hurdle is over

Coming to its ingredients, the product is purely organic. It has the benefits of coconut oil and aloe vera. It’s tear free and soap free formula cleanses and moisturizes skin. Also it is MadeSafe certified, dermatologically tested and pH balanced.  Mamaearth Foaming Facewash is free of SLS, parabens, phthalates, detergents and artificial fragrances.

Did you know we inherit these 5 traits from our Mother

Mother's day post
If you are a women, you will experience similar health milestones as that of your mother

Let me kick of this Mother’s day post by giving a big salute to my Mom.

I am sure we all agree that mom has played a key role in transforming us into what we are today… even if we are like two peas in a pod or totally chalk and cheese. You would be surprised to know that it’s just not at behavior level moms influence us, but she influences our genetic makeup too !

Intelligence comes from our mom

How intelligent a child is depends on mom, and not on Dad….science says so.  Genes for intelligence is present on X chromosome and women have two of these. But then things  are not just that simple. Mothers do have two X chromosomes, but they aren’t identical chromosomes, and of course, they get one of them from their fathers.

Energy that powers our cells…we owe it to mom

mothers day post

Mitochondria are structures present inside cells that helps in converting the energy from food into a form that cells can use. Though most of the DNA is packed in cell nucleus, mitochondria also have a small amount of their own DNA and this is essential for powering the cells. This mitochondrial DNA comes only from the mother and nobody fully understands why or how fathers’ mitochondrial DNA gets wiped from cells.

Menstruation….it resembles a lot like your mom

If you are a women, you will experience similar milestones as that of your mother. Study carried out by Institute of Cancer Research at the University of London, says that there’s a 57 percent chance that a girl will start menstruating within three months of when her mother started her period.

Not so good part…….

10 Surprising Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

10 Surprising Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar
Raw, unfiltered and unpasteurized vinegar with floating stuff inside alone can be used as a health tonic

Apple Cider Vinegar is nature’s  magic potion. I am sure you would have already heard about some of its benefits. You will be surprised to know that, It is in use way back from 1958, from the time  doctor D.C. Jarvis wrote a book praising Apple Cider Vinegar’s benefits in treating everything from arthritis to diabetes to weight gain.

What’s in it ?

Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar made by the fermentation of apple cider. During the fermentation process, sugar in the apple cider is broken down by bacteria and yeast into alcohol and then into vinegar. Like many types of vinegar, apple cider vinegar contains a substance called acetic acid. Apple cider vinegar also contains some lactic, citric and malic acids.

Is Raw Apple Cider Vinegar Better than Clear Vinegar?

Raw, unfiltered and unpasteurized vinegar with floating stuff inside alone can be used as a health tonic. The floating matter is not dirt, but a substance called as “mother” which is formed from pectin and apple residue. The minerals, amino acids and vitamins present in it, gives it a brown tinge.  Healthkart’s Apple Cider Vinegar comes with the ‘mother’ culture in it which contains beneficial bacteria and acids that helps you keep fit and healthy.

What’s Good About Apple Cider Vinegar?

Aid in Weight loss

Research studies suggests that drinking apple cider vinegar can help to burn fat and lose weight. Acetic acid, key ingredient found in apple cider vinegar, helps with weight loss. A study carried out in 175 Japanese people in 2009, showed that continuous vinegar intake reduces body weight, BMI, and body fat mass. Apple Cider Vinegar also gives a feeling of fullness, because of which food intake reduces.

Lowers Blood Sugar

Research suggest that intake of small amount of apple cider vinegar can help to reduce blood sugar levels after a peak following a meal high in carbohydrates. Apple Cider Vinegar is very much beneficial for Type II Diabetes patients in managing their blood sugar level.  Acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar slows down the conversion of complex carbohydrates into sugar in the bloodstream.

Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits

Lowers Blood Pressure

Apple cider vinegar, or ACV can lower even blood pressure when consumed daily. It brings about better blood circulation by breaking down fat and phlegm deposits in the body and lowers pressure against the arterial walls.

Reduce Bad Cholesterol

Apple cider vinegar increases good cholesterol levels and decreases bad cholesterol. ACV reduces LDLs also known as “bad” cholesterol, which oxidizes in the blood stream and lead to the formation of plaque. Flavonoids in ACV scavenges free radicals and prevent cell damage and oxidative stress, reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.

Good medication for Gout

Many people with gout found instant relief after consuming apple cider vinegar, while others have reported relief after a few days. Apple cider vinegar breaks down uric acid crystals and prevents them from reforming in the joints. It also reduces inflammation and swelling in the joints giving it more flexibility.
